Peripheral artery disease (PAD) refers to a circulatory disorder caused by the narrowing of arteries, which are the vessels that supply the body with oxygen-rich blood. A circulatory disorder of the legs leads to the so-called intermittent claudication, which forces individuals to stop walking due to leg pain. Muscles and organs do not receive sufficient oxygen and nutrients, especially under increased exertion – such as during walking. The leg muscles therefore „complain“ with pain, the classic symptom of PAD.
Deposits of fat and calcium form, mostly in the legs, less often in the arms, with tobacco consumption being the most important risk factor. However, elevated blood lipids, high blood pressure, and diabetes can also contribute to vascular deposits, so-called arteriosclerosis. These lead to constricted areas and even arterial blockages.
The most important element in the therapy of a patient with peripheral artery disease (PAD) is the management of the risk profile (smoking cessation, control of blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol). Medications, structured walking training, and various surgical procedures are available to improve blood flow.
A personalized treatment plan is discussed for each patient so that optimal therapy can be carried out.

In our practice, we offer you the complete spectrum of vascular medicine in prevention, diagnostics, therapy, and aftercare. Our aim is to treat you at the highest medical level. We value friendly and humane interaction with our patients, so that you will feel completely comfortable and competently cared for.
